Kit List for Toubkal Climb
What to wear on Mount Toubkal in winter?
We recommend you bring your climbing equipment with you or you can rent them in Imlil but the selection here is quite old and limited. Here is a quick list of all the gear that you need to pack for Mount Toubkal climb in winter:
- 25-30 litres Day-pack.
- 25-30 litres Day-pack.
- Short Sleeve and Long Sleeve Trekking Shirts.
- Polartec Fleece Jacket.
- Hiking Trousers.
- Insulated Winter Jacket.
- Waterproof Shell Jacket and Trousers.
- Warm Beanie or Fleece Headband.
- Glacier/sunglasses cat 3 UV polaroid.
- Headlamp.
- Fleece gloves / Mitts.
- Walking Poles with snow baskets.
- Hiking boots.
- Refuge Shoes - crocs or sandals.
- Camera, Music, Kindle etc.
- Spare Batteries and Camera Memory Card.
- Energy Drink Supplement.
- 1 litre drink bottle.
- Toiletries, including one roll of toilet paper.
- Trekking Towel.
- Small Lock for your Duffle Bag.
- Antibacterial hand gel.
Summer or winter: what changes
The list above is written for a winter ascent, when snow lies above the refuge and crampons, an ice axe and warm layers are essential. Crampons and axes can be hired in Imlil, but the selection is limited, so bring your own if you can and let us know in advance if you need to rent.
From late spring to autumn the same climb needs far less: sturdy boots, layers for cold summit mornings, sun protection and plenty of water. Nights at the refuge are cool in every season, so a warm layer and a sleeping bag or liner still earn their place.
Mules carry the main bags as far as the refuge in summer and to the snowline in winter, so pack the duffel for them and keep only the day's essentials in your daypack: water, snacks, a warm layer, sun cream and your camera.
