1 Day ( 4/5 hours )
Starting time 8/9 AM
Moderate
This enchanting trek begins in Imlil, ascending gradually through Morocco's most spectacular mountain valley. The well-maintained mule path winds past emerald terraces where Berber farmers tend ancient crops, their traditional methods unchanged for generations. As you climb higher, the landscape transforms dramatically—barren peaks pierce azure skies whilst the Reraya river carves through rust-coloured gorges below.
The sacred destination, Sidi Chamharouch, represents Morocco's spiritual complexity beautifully. Here, a simple white boulder serves as a powerful marabout shrine, where daily rituals blend Islamic faith with pre-Islamic Berber beliefs. Pilgrims arrive seeking healing, exorcism, and blessings, creating an atmosphere thick with devotion and mystique.
Your expert local guide shares fascinating insights into mountain ecology, Berber culture, and the shrine's significance whilst identifying medicinal plants and explaining traditional farming techniques. The return journey offers different perspectives of the dramatic landscape, with numerous photo opportunities overlooking the valley's geometric terraces. A carefully chosen picnic spot beside tumbling streams provides the perfect moment to absorb this extraordinary mountain sanctuary.

Tips and items of a personal nature.
This is graded as a moderate trek suitable for anyone with reasonable fitness. You'll walk for approximately 5 hours with 600m of ascent and descent. Regular walking experience is helpful, but no technical climbing skills are required.
Pack comfortable hiking shoes, layered clothing, sun hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, and a water bottle. We recommend bringing a light rain jacket as mountain weather can change quickly.
Your tour includes an experienced local guide and picnic lunch.
The trek operates year-round, though spring (March-May) and autumn (September-November) offer the most pleasant weather. Winter can be cold with possible snow, whilst summer is hot but manageable with early morning starts.
The path is a well-worn mule track with some rocky sections. Most of the route follows the valley floor with a steady, manageable gradient. Good hiking boots with ankle support are recommended.
We monitor weather conditions closely and will reschedule your trek to another day if possible when severe weather threatens safety. If rescheduling isn't feasible due to your travel plans, we offer alternative indoor cultural activities in Imlil or provide a full refund. Your safety and satisfaction are our top priorities.
